On the last week of July, myself and Geoff Baldwin of Return of the Cafe Racers had the pleasure of attending the Art of Speed custom car and bike show in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia after being invited as special guests.

The organisers of Art of Speed have concentrated on pulling together people and vehicles from many walks of life, something that's always refreshing to see from an event.

If there's something that I've learned from the last ten years in the auto media, it's that there are plenty of people out there who like to see a bit of everything under one roof, myself included.

There were hand-built custom bikes alongside slammed Volkswagens, Japanese daily driver projects, Porsche race cars and a whole hall of modern tuner cars.

A stand-out highlight at the event was the presence that Hot Wheels made. Not only with their shop/booth, celebrating their 50th anniversary (with a constantly long, long que of eager fans waiting to shop shop shop...), but also the presence of a toy-spec purple RWB build sitting pretty much in the centre of the show, complete with gold wheels and matching HW logo. Los Angeles-based Hot Wheels designer Dmitriy Shakhmatov was on-hand all weekend, introducing new products and signing toys for the enthusiasts.

A huge thank you to Asep and the team for having us over, it was a delight to visit Malaysia for the first time and to get a glimpse of the local car and bike culture. I managed a few extra shoots during the trip, so watch out for those coming up on the Fuel Tank site soon.
